Miguel Garcia

Director – Owner – Master Teacher

The seed for STAGES was planted early in Miguel’s life while growing up in Redding, California. He would sit for hours watching his older sister take dance lessons from Elsa, a local teacher. The memories of Elsa saying, “tuck in your stomachs, stand up straight ladies, don’t chew gum and don’t be late!” still ring in his ears. Armed with his tape deck and vivid imagination, Miguel would put together dance recitals featuring his siblings. He dreamed of one day having a studio of his own. Miguel holds a BA in dance performance and choreography from San Francisco State University and has a lifetime of dance classes under his belt. He’s choreographed for over 500 students, ranging in age from pre-k to college. After several years dancing and living in San Francisco, he moved to Davis in 2010 to be closer to his siblings and their ever-growing family. Miguel loves dance and he is thrilled to combine the two by opening STAGES so he can share his years of dance education and experience with the community.

Ms. Cara Rains

Ms. Cara Rains has been studying classical ballet for over 25 years. She is certified by The Royal Academy of Dance, an internationally recognized portfolio of examinations and assessments outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance.  She has also had supplemented her ballet training with Jazz, Lyrical, as well as additional dance specialties.

Cara has studied with some world famous teachers, Ron Guidi from the Oakland Ballet; David Howard, who taught internationally at institutions such as the Royal Ballet, the American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, and the National Ballet of Canada; & Finis Jung, who was a faculty member at the acclaimed Broadway Dance Center.

Cara realized that teaching is where she belonged and started her teaching career at Montana Ballet and then returned home where she ran the Ballet Program for The Pamela Trokanski Dance Company in Davis for 10 years.  She also did a stint as the Director of the Applegate Dance Company. She also found the time to work with the Davis High School Jazz Choir for the last 7 years. She has choreographed a variety of musicals including: Anything Goes, Pippin and Rent, and was director of the Tribute to Tony Fields production.

Cara strongly believes the most important aspect for any teacher are their students and in this regard, she has been VERY blessed!  She has had dancers go on to perform with many world renowned companies, among them: The Joffrey Ballet, San Francisco Ballet, ABT, Boston Ballet, and The Marine Ballet. She is so proud of the people her dancers have become.

Staying in touch with so many of her dancers, watching them grow and flourish and considered part of their family.  Dance is more than movement …it is what comes out of soul. Ms. Rains sees that as her primary goal…bringing out the soul of a dancer.
