The seed for STAGES was planted early in Miguel’s life while growing up in Redding, California. He would sit for hours watching his older sister take dance lessons from Elsa, a local teacher. The memories of Elsa saying, “tuck in your stomachs, stand up straight ladies, don’t chew gum and don’t be late!” still ring in his ears. Armed with his tape deck and vivid imagination, Miguel would put together dance recitals featuring his siblings. He dreamed of one day having a studio of his own. Miguel holds a BA in dance performance and choreography from San Francisco State University and has a lifetime of dance classes under his belt. He’s choreographed for over 500 students, ranging in age from pre-k to college. After several years dancing and living in San Francisco, he moved to Davis in 2010 to be closer to his siblings and their ever-growing family. Miguel loves dance and he is thrilled to combine the two by opening STAGES so he can share his years of dance education and experience with the community.
Sarah began dancing when she was five years old at a local studio beginning with ballet and tap. During the school year she trained in classical ballet, jazz and tap. During the summer she attended the Central California School of Dance Conservatory for five years as she trained extensively in ballet, both classical and contemporary, as well as jazz, modern, tap and theater. At the age of 13 Sarah joined the Juline Regional Youth Ballet while continuing to dance with Central West Ballet for ballets such as The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty. During high school she became a member of Regional Dance America and performed at the national festivals held in Phoenix, Arizona and Montreal, Canada. Sarah is now a student at UC Davis majoring in Nuerobiology, Physiology, and Behavior and is an active member of the Davis Ballet Company.
